What To Expect With At-Home Euthanasia

Once you decide to humanely and painlessly help your pet end their suffering, a vet will come to your home. They will sit with you and your pet and discuss post-euthanasia arrangements (home burial, cremation, etc.).

When you are ready and have found a comfortable spot, the vet will administer a sedative that will quickly lull your friend into a very calm and sleepy state. Then, a lethal dose of anesthesia will be given that will stop the heart.

The veterinarian will give you time alone with your friend. If you've chosen cremation, the vet will prepare the body to be transported to the crematory. If you choose to keep the cremains, you will be notified when they are ready to be picked up.
